DESCRIPTION:\n \n \n \n Dr. Karli Gillette\, Assistant Profess
or of Biomedical Engineering will be our speaker f
or our October meeting.  She has recently been awa
rded a grant to enhance Digital twin technologies.
Dr. Gillette has her B.S. and M.S. in Biomedical
Engineering from the University of Utah and her Ph
D from the Medical University of Graz in Austria a
nd currently is part of the Scientific Computing a
nd Imaging Institute (SCI) at the University of Ut
 ah.\n \n \n \n Digital twin (DT) technologies are
rapidly becoming a cornerstone of modern engineeri
ng. From aerospace to manufacturing to healthcare\
 , DTs offer a powerful way to simulate\, monitor\,
and optimize complex systems by creating virtual
replicas that evolve in real time with data. But a
s these systems grow in sophistication\, so do the
mathematical challenges behind them. At the heart
of every digital twin lies a delicate balance bet
ween computational models and real-world data. Gen
erating accurate models\, calibrating them with no
isy or incomplete data\, and quantifying uncertain
ty are all tasks that demand advanced mathematical
and statistical tools. While recent engineering a
dvances have made DTs more accessible\, the mathem
atical infrastructure needed to support them—espec
ially in high-stakes applications like medicine—is
still catching up.  Come find out about this tech
nology and how it is being used to create cardiac
digital twins.\n \n \n \n We will be meeting at th
e John and Marcia College of Engineering Warnock B
uilding in the Eccles Boardroom.  This is a lunche
on event so please register and choose your lunch.
