Nancy Rink was introduced to ARCS by Patti Tucker and joined ARCS in 2018, drawn by its mission, the women she met, and its programs. Among other roles, she served multiple years on the University Relations Committee, reading applications, matching donors and scholars, and acting as the NAU liaison for two years. Currently, she is responsible for organizing field trips for the organization. With over 30 years in the electric power industry, Nancy’s interest in nuclear power began in the 1970s, supporting her father’s work at Arizona Public Service (APS) on Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station. She earned a bachelor of science in nuclear engineering from the University of Arizona in 1982 and worked for Bechtel Power Corporation and APS at Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station for over 18 years, focusing on Nuclear Steam Supply System components. She also worked in Nuclear Regulatory Licensing and Compliance, specializing in fire protection. In 1997, Nancy moved to APS’ corporate office in Phoenix, managing intellectual property and sustainability efforts. She ultimately was promoted to Manager, Eco-Efficiency and Technology Innovation and led Department of Energy projects on biofuel production and synthetic natural gas. Nancy retired in July 2013. Nancy met her husband, Patrick Rink, in 1999, married six months later (because that was prudent), and had a daughter, Natalie “Ellie,” in 2001. Patrick passed unexpectedly in 2008 when Ellie was just 6. Since then, she raised Ellie as a single mother and is grateful to the village that helped her. Ellie is now twenty-four and working and thriving in Washington, DC. Nancy enjoys hosting ARCS’ annual “Chili Dinner” and participating in many ARCS activities. She has previously served in a host of capacities on various boards and nuclear industry groups. Currently, Nancy is also on the Hospice of the Valley Aaah! Committee, and is an active member of the Desert Botanical Garden and Valley Field Polo and Riding Club. Nancy recently served on the City of Phoenix Arts and Culture Commission. Nancy is a jack of all trades, master of none. She has many interests including art, travel, design, and loves everything Arizona. She is a 2nd generation native of Phoenix. |
