Libby Worsley Crouch joined ARCS in 2015. She was introduced to the organization by her friend Jennifer Sands. They were reading grants for an ASU organization, and Libby mentioned how much she enjoyed being a reader. Jennifer seized the moment, told her about ARCS, and invited her to the Tea.
Libby has enjoyed being on the scholar committee. Jane Lawson and Libby were co chair for ARCS field trips. They had the unique experience of organizing field trips during COVID. They turned to Zoom, creating virtual field trips. They asked both past and present scholars to present. For example, we had a tour of a lab at NAU.
Libby grew up in Winnetka, IL. She attended ASU. After discovering a winter without mittens, scarves, boots, hats, and a heavy coat, she wasn’t going back to the Midwest. Libby taught in the Washington School District, obtained her master’s in education, a principal certificate, taught the academically gifted, and did private tutoring while raising her son, Gregory.
Years ago, she asked multiple friends if she could join their book group. She was asked to join three the same year; feeling it was only polite to say yes, she joined all three and has joined two more. Yes, five book groups!
She has been married, divorced, married, and widowed. She is the stepmother to five and birthed a son. Her son, Gregory, and his wife, Lindsey, moved to Phoenix just two years ago. They have a son, Leo (5), and daughter, Lucy (1).
She has been an active Docent at the Phoenix Art Museum for 46 years. She was the Docent president in 2000. She is a member of the Arizona Costume Institute and was their president from 2006-2008. She is on the aaha committee for Hospice of the Valley. She is in a group that makes blankets for organizations in town. She has been in an investment group for over 25 years. Her hobbies include miniatures, sewing, embroidery, and multiple crafts.
Libby coauthored a book, "Planning Children’s Birthday Parties: Libby and Penny's Survival Guide.” She has been writing a booklet on being a widow, “When One Becomes Half”.
A fact not everyone knows: She was adopted, and after her parents and husband died, she decided to do a search. That was one heck of a journey yet wonderfully beautiful. Using Ancestry.com and Catholic Charities of Chicago as the contact source, she was able to meet her birth mother and half sister. They were able to get to know each other during years before her birth mother died. It was a gift for all of them. She and her new sister continue to be in each other’s lives. |
