ARCS Phoenix Scholars On the Move March 2013

Posted on Monday, March 4, 2013

ARCS Phoenix Alumni Scholar, Dr. Kristen Ward, finished requirements for her Ph.D. in December 2012. While working towards her doctorate at the University of Arizona, Kristen was in the field of earthquake engineering, specifically in seismic structural design of steel. After graduation, Kristen accepted a position at ANSYS, a computer aided engineering developer.  She is currently a structural consultant in Austin, Texas.  Her work is very interesting as she sees a great variety of different structural issues from oil drilling products to sports equipment.  She keeps very busy but does miss the Arizona desert.

ARCS Phoenix Alumni Scholar, Dr. Timothy Melano, received his doctorate from the University of Arizona in 2009 in Biomedical Engineering.  He is now a Biosignal Algorithms Engineer at BASIS Science in the San Francisco Bay Area.  In a recent email, Timothy writes, “I am fascinated with building intelligent algorithms and machines.  At the moment I’m having a blast building algorithms that help large populations of people achieve and maintain their health and wellness goals.  My experience at Basis Science has been very rich, having been involved in the launch of our inaugural device.”
